applicant's own government
The applicant should contact the corresponding section of his own government.
Japanese government
The detail is explained later.
private sectors

Japanese Government Scholarship

There are several schemes to apply for the Japanese government scholarship.

Except for the International Graduate Course students, the scholarship includes both the Japanese language training and the regular period (two years for master / three years for doctor) of graduate study.

A. Recommendation by Japanese Embassy

The Japanese Government requests its overseas diplomatic establishments to advertise study in Japan on a Japanese Government scholarship and to conduct the preliminary selection of candidates.

This preliminary selection is based on the followings:

  1. a consideration of the applicant's academic record and personal history

  2. a written examination

  3. an interview

Accommodations

Tokyo Tech has 2 dormitories for international students, i.e. Shofu Dormitory and Umegaoka Dormitory, both of which are conveniently located close to public transportation, in Aoba-ku, Yokohama, and which are run by the International Student Office of Tokyo Tech. The Shofu Dormitory has 46 single rooms for male students and 5 double rooms for couples, while the Umegaoka Dormitory has 31 single rooms for male students, 19 single for female students and 10 double rooms for couples. As the number of available rooms is insufficient to accommodate all international students, many live in private, rented accommodations.

There is a priority list for the dormitory:

  1. International Graduate Course students.

  2. Monbukagakusho Scholarship students.

  3. Privately supported graduate students.

  4. Privately supported research students.

In fact, private students hardly live in the dormitory, these days.

As each dormitory is for the international students who come to Japan to study at Tokyo Tech for the first time, the period of stay there is limited to one year.
